Oops!

I already goofed.  I brought home a Barnes and Noble plastic bag yesterday!

Old habits are tough to break…

Bagless

I am going to try something I have tried before.

Starting today, no more plastic bags at the grocery store.  In fact, no more paper bags unless I have a large order.  I’ll bring my own.

It will be tough to always remember, but I am going to do my best to try and form this new and important habit.

How about you?

I used to think paper was always better….maybe thats not always the case.  Check out this video from CNN.

New house?

On Friday, Dad sent John out to look at a couple of lots near our house.  When he got to the lots, John called me all excited and said , “Les…. I could see us living here.”

Now my head is spinning because in the past 2 days, we have made an offer on the land, and borrowed a realtor friend to come and give us a rough estimate of what we could sell our house for. Incidentally, it could sell for more than we had thought! We just re-did our kitchen about 3 months ago, and had been planning to stick around this house for another couple of years, but the thought of building our own home just the way we like it is so enticing.  I guess sometimes life just moves fast!

Now John is sitting in the living room creating house plans, and I am day dreaming of life in a new house.

The current owner of the lots has until tomorrow to let us know if our offer has been accepted.

Whether this sceme works out or not, all of this reminds me of just how lucky I am to have so many options in life.

Lunch Out

Sometimes words can make you think.  The words below reminded me that lunch with my Grandma is long over due.  She is living in a home less than 10 minutes from my house, and I don’t do this enough.  Off to Applebees…I used to call it Crapplebees when i worked there as a teenager, but its her favorite and so that’s where we’ll go.

The Little Boy and the Old Man

Said the little boy, "Sometimes I drop my spoon."

Said the old man, "I do that, too."

The little boy whispered, "I wet my pants."

"I do that too," laughed the little old man.

Said the little boy, "I often cry."

The old man nodded, "So do I."

"But worst of all," said the boy,

"It seems grown-ups don't pay attention to me."

And he felt the warmth of a wrinkled old hand.

"I know what you mean, " said the little old man.

Bathtub

I took a bath tonight.  A nice hot long bath.  My cat watched me the ENTIRE time.

I somehow don’t feel quite as clean.

weight

I think I am obsessed.  No matter how much I tell myself to not get on the scale, each day I wake with a yearning to know how much my body weighs.  I feel comfortable in my obsession.  I put no self worth in these numbers,  I just like to be in the know.Last night I made John read the number to me because I had already taken out my eyes (contacts).  That’s trust… letting someone else within 10 feet of me and my date with the scale.

To date I am negative 5 pounds…we’ll see how long that lasts!

Volunteering

Yesterday I went with my company and volunteered around the community in honor of Martin Luther King Day.  While i enjoyed my time volunteering, I realized that sometimes volunteers are poorly utilized.  We went to the Richmond Ronald McDonald house and spent time helping them spruce up the place and also cooked a nice meal for the people using their facility.  The funny thing was that our group of volunteers blew through the list of tasks they had given us in less than half the time we were slotted to be there.   It’s almost like the people planning these activities just expect that volunteers will be unorganized and slow.  I hope we showed them that when done right volunteers can be just as efficient,  if not more than any paid labor.  We’re volunteering time that could have been used in other ways, there is no reason to not give it our best effort.  Our time is AT LEAST that valuable, is it not?

Skinny Jeans

Today I put on my skinny jeans. Almost every gal I know has a pair. There is something about squeezing into the pants that you banished to the back quadrant of the closet long ago that just feels wonderful. ( not that my closet is remotely big enough to have quadrants, but you understand.) The problem with the skinny jeans is that they are still tight…i guess 5 pounds wasn’t quite enough. I’ll suck it up for half of the day and wear them just to tell myself I did it. Maybe come February first I’ll be able to shoot for all day. If I’m in luck, by March these will be more comfortable than my pajamas.

Snow

It snowed today. A funny thing happens with weather like this.  A certain part of you longs for hot cocoa and snow ice-cream; a concoction that I must say isn’t nearly as delicious as it sounds, but the idea of it is just so much fun.  Here is a recipe.  And, as with anything… avoid the yellow stuff.

Right after I posted all of those pictures I was religated to cleaning up cat vomit.  I guess all of the publicity made the cat want to puke.
